Award-winning accountants The Chartwell Practice have appointed a new Accounting Apprentice to join its professional team of local educated and trained staff. Lauren Guyler, who has just completed her A-Levels at Abbot Beyne School in Winshill, joined the St Paul’s Square based practice this month.
This new appointment continues the successful apprenticeship route followed by The Chartwell Practice in training all its staff to high levels of professional competency.
“We combine the complementary advantages of in-house training with day-release courses at Burton College”, pointed out Partner, Steven Bourne. Lauren, pictured here being welcomed to the Practice by Steven, will be a Trainee Accounting Technician on the Practice’s Accounting Scheme and working towards her NVQ Levels 2 and 3.
“I made a definite decision to follow a career in Accounting and The Chartwell Practice was my first choice”, said Ms Guyler. “The training path mapped out for me to obtain advanced qualifications and receive a regular salary, as opposed to a £20,000 overdraft in three years time, sounded much more sensible”.
“We have found that the combination of work experience with colleagues who have already followed the same on-the-job training, plus part-time courses, is highly instructive and beneficial for the new employee”, continued Steven Bourne.
“The complementary advantages of in-house training and external courses show that a university degree is not the only way to successfully enter accounting”. The Practice now employs 7 fully qualified full-time staff who have followed the training scheme with 100% success rate.
In this year’s A and A/S examinations, Lauren achieved A-grade in Business Studies, an A in Psychology and a B in ICT. She was a key member of the Young Enterprise team, AB Arts, from Abbot Beyne School, that reached the Y E County Finals in Rocester last year.
